The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Screening Test for selection to Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2023 through Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2023 which will be held on 28th May, 2023, in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in the Gazette of India dated the 01st February, 2023.

INDIAN FOREST SERVICE EXAM 2023

UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFS) is one of the three All India Services of the Government of India. It is one of the Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the recruitment officers at the All India level by the Government of India for the implementation of the National Forest Policy.

Plan of UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) Examination

UPSC IFS Exam consists of two stages:

I.           UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination

II.               UPSC Indian Forest Service Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service. 

Applications are now invited for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination only.    

Candidates who will be declared by the Commission to have qualified for admission to the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination will have to apply again, in the Online Detailed Application Form which would be made available on the Website of the Commission after declaration of Results of UPSC CSE Preliminary Examination.

UPSC IFS Vacancies : The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 150

UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) Eligibility Criteria

Nationality
A candidate must be either
      a. A citizen of India,
      b. A subject of Nepal,
      c. A subject of Bhutan,
      d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
      e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Vietnam, Zaire or Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates belonging to either categories of b., c., d. or e., must produce an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India. Those who belong to either of b., c., or d., categories are not eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service.

UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) Educational Qualifications :  

The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent
qualification.    

UPSC IFS Age Limit 

i. A candidate must have attained 21 years and not be over 32 years on 1st August 2023 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1990 and not later than 1st August, 2002 

ii. The upper age limit is relaxed in specific cases as mentioned below:
a. upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate belongs to SC/ST.
b. upto a maximum of 3 years if the candidate belongs to Other Backward Classes.
c.  upto a maximum of 3 years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled during hostilities with foreign countries or in a disturbed area and consequently released.
d. upto a maximum of 5 years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs / SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on August 1 of the year of examination and have been released:- on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from August 1 of the year of examination) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or
 - on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or
 - on invalidment.
e. upto a maximum of 5 years in the case of ECOs / SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment (5 years Military Service) as on August 1 of the year of examination and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years. Such candidates will have to provide a certificate from the Ministry of Defence stating that they can apply for civil employment and they will be released on a notice of 3 months, upon selection, from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.
f. upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and orthopaedically handicapped candidates.  

Number of INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) attempts : 

(a) Every candidate appearing at the examination who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six attempts at the examination. Provided that this restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates who are otherwise eligible. for more information visit upsc.gov.in

UPSC IFS Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Indian Forest Service Examination, 2023 as per regulations given in Appendix-III of the rules for the Indian Forest Service Examination, 2023 published in Gazette of India dated 1st  Feb, 2023. 

How to Apply UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) Application Form: 

Candidates are required to apply UPSC IFS online using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.

Candidates are required to apply Online using the link http://www.upsconline.nic.in for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination which will act as a screening mechanism for selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination. Candidates who wish to apply for Civil Services Examination also, [subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions] have to apply once by appropriately indicating in the on-line application form that they intend to appear for both the Indian Forest Service Examination and the Civil Services Examination. Candidates, who will qualify for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, will have to fill in a Detailed Application Form subsequently as per further instructions to be provided to the candidates through the website (www.upsconline.nic.in) of the Commission.  Detailed instructions for filling up Online Applications are available on the above mentioned website. 

The facility of withdrawal of Application is available for those candidates who do not want to appear for Indian Forest Service Examination, 2023.

UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) Application Fee : Candidates (excepting  Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India
or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card
or by using Internet Banking of SBI. Applicants who opt for Pay by Cash mode should print the system generated Pay-in-slip during part II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. Pay by Cash mode will be deactivated at 11.59 P.M.of 20.02.2023 i.e.one day before the closing date; however  applicants who have generated their Pay-in-Slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date. Such applicants who are unable to pay by cash on the closing date i.e. during banking hours at SBI Branch, for reasons whatsoever, even if holding valid pay-in-slip will have no other offline option but to opt for available online Debit/Credit Card or Internet Banking payment mode on the closing date i.e. till 18:00 Hours of 21.02.2023.

UPSC INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) e-Admit Card: The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website [www.upsc.gov.in] for downloading by candidates.  No Admit Card will be sent by post.
